Chad Crumm - Swimming Hole
Posted January 28th, 2008 by dadmin"Swimming Hole" was written and recorded by Chad Crumm at his studio (the
Music Tank), located just outside of Trumansburg, New York, home of the
Finger Lakes Grass Roots Festival of Music and Dance. The material is a
departure from any previous recorded effort by Chad. "Swimming Hole" makes
ample use of ambient noise, software synths, samplers, static loops, pitch
shifting, usual and unusual acoustic resources and today's state of the
art studio technology. Despite a busy patchwork of tonal color, rhythm and
lyrics, the arrangments are refined, and unfold from first song to last
with ease. The end result is a strange but cohesive set of non-traditional
songs.
Guest performers are: Brian Dudla, Walt Lorenzut, Ryan Cady, Eric Ott,
Peter Dodge, Jim Reidy and Gregor Sayet-Bone.
Primarily known as a fiddle player, Crumm's "Swimming Hole" highlights his
other abilities such as guitar playing, spoken word technique, lyric
writing and engineering/production skills.
Chad's previous releases as an instrumentalist and songwriter include 2
records on Rounder from the 80's with the Chicken Chokers, 2 CD's on
Tritone with the Hix from the 90's and numerous anthologies. He has
written numerous pieces for theatre, film, dance and concert stage
including,"Pink Angels" a concerto for double-barrel shotgun and
orchestra, and holds a BM in Composition from New England Conservatory.
His engineering/production credits include the Old Crow Medicine Show
(Eutaw), singer songwriter Jennie Stearns (Sing Desire), the Lonesome
Sisters (The Lonesome Sisters) and many others.
